Accessibility Statement
Purple Blossom Counselling
My Commitment
I strive for Purple Blossom Counselling to feel as welcoming and accessible as possible for everyone, whether you are visiting my website, using my booking system, or attending a session. I recognise that people experience the world and technology in different ways, and I aim to be thoughtful and responsive to these needs.
Using This Website
I aim to make this website as clear, calm, and easy to use as possible. This includes:
-
Using clear, readable fonts and gentle colour contrasts
-
Keeping language simple and avoiding unnecessary jargon
-
Structuring pages so they’re easy to navigate
-
Making sure the site works across different devices and screen sizes
I know that accessibility is an ongoing process, and I’m open to making improvements where needed.
Our Accessibility Standards
I aim to meet the WCAG 2.1 Level AA international standards for digital accessibility. This means I work to ensure my website and documents are clear, calm, and compatible with assistive technologies like screen readers.
Using the Kiku Client Portal
I use a secure practice management system called Kiku to manage bookings, payments, and private messaging.
-
Third-Party Software: While I ensure that the documents I upload (like your Working Agreement) are accessible, the technical infrastructure of the Kiku portal itself is managed by a third-party provider.
-
Support: If you find any part of the Kiku booking or payment process difficult to navigate, please let me know. I am very happy to help you complete your booking manually or find an alternative way to share information.
Information in Other Formats
I want to ensure you can read and understand all the information I provide. If you need any of my practice documents in a different format, please ask. I can provide:
-
Large Print (for easier reading)
-
Plain Text versions (best for screen readers)
-
Audio Recordings of key information
Support with our agreement: If you find reading through or signing the Working Agreement difficult, we can talk through it together during our first session instead. We can make sure everything is clear and comfortable for you before we begin our work.
Accessibility and Your Sessions
Counselling sessions are flexible and supportive. If there are any reasonable adjustments that would make our work more comfortable for you, please feel free to tell me. This might include:
-
Adjustments to session pacing or breaks.
-
Specific communication preferences (e.g., using text instead of voice for admin).
-
Ensuring face-to-face sessions take place in my wheelchair-accessible space.
-
Removing one or more of the client chairs available to make room for a wheelchair.
-
Session format (online, telephone, or face to face).
We can talk about this together, at a pace that feels right for you.
Your Session Environment
I want my therapy room to be a space where you can feel at ease. To support your sensory and physical needs, I offer:
Physical Access: My practice is in a private garden room. It is fully wheelchair-accessible with step-free access from the (entrance/parking). Please note that there are no indoor waiting areas or bathroom facilities on-site; I kindly ask that you plan for your comfort before your visit.
Lighting & Sound: We can use low, soft lighting or natural light during our sessions to suit your preference. The room is a quiet space designed to minimise outside noise.
Sensory Tools: A variety of fidget and "fiddle" toys are available for you to use during our work. A weighted blanket is also available, if requested in advance.
Scent & Allergies: I often use relaxing scents like lavender, jasmine, or sandalwood in a passive stone diffuser. Please let me know if you would prefer the diffuser is not given a scent top up ahead of your visit; I am more than happy to accommodate this.
Online Session Accessibility
I am committed to making therapy accessible. My primary platform, Google Meet, includes the following features:
-
Live Captions: Real-time automated captions are available during our calls for those with hearing impairments.
-
Screen Reader Support: The platform is designed to be compatible with common screen readers.
-
Technical Requirements: You can access our sessions on most modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari) without additional software. If you have specific accessibility needs or require a different platform for medical or accessibility reasons, please let me know so we can discuss reasonable adjustments.
Let Me Know If Something Isn’t Working
